Volume 1: Container Cultivation

DVD Case pic 215x300 Volume 1: Container Cultivation The subject of container cultivation is examined in depth in this video and a range of techniques are demonstrated using eight different cultivars. Some are healthy and in good condition whilst others require remedial work to get them growing properly again. The reason why specific work is done to each particular cultivar is fully explained to allow you to apply it to your own plants.

Different types of potting mixes are suggested, depending on pot sizes and the question of deciding which pot size suits a particular plant based on it’s size and vigour is addressed. Appropriate aftercare for each plant is offered to give it the best environment to establish itself in it’s new pot and grow away as quickly as possible.

The video starts by looking at the featured plants at the beginning of the year whilst dormant and follows them over the course of a whole growing season. As the summer arrives, the plants are checked for progress and to see if any further work is needed. The advantages and disadvantages of summer potting are discussed as well as root pruning in the summer and how it can stimulate growth.

At the end of the growing season all the plants are examined to see how well they have performed and recommendations made for what steps might need to be taken in subsequent seasons. The examples in this video can be used as a reference point for your own plants and by taking elements of each technique, they can be applied to any cultivar in any condition.

If you have struggled in the past to grow the perfect containerised Japanese maple or you are just starting out and need how-to guidance, this video explains the steps required to achieve lasting success.
